GIRAFFE  A reticulated giraffe ( Giraffa camelopardalis reticulata ) and a Rothschild's giraffe ( Giraffa camelopardalis rothschildi ), two giraffe subspecies, photographed at Rolling Hills Wildlife Adventure in Salina, Kansas Range map of extant  Giraffa  species. The giraffes ( Giraffa camelopardalis ) are an African  even-toed ungulate   mammal , the tallest living  terrestrial animal, and the largest  ruminant . They are  specific name  refers to its  camel -like face and patches of color on a light background, which bears a vague resemblance to a  leopard 's spots. The giraffes are also noted for its extremely long neck and legs and prominent horns. Stephen Hawking     Scientist Stephen Hawking is known for his groundbreaking work with black holes and relativity, and is the author of several popular science books including 'A Brief History of Time.' Who Is Stephen Hawking?
